Federal Government Employee Wage Lawsuit

Hodges & Foty, LLP > Federal Government Employee Wage Lawsuit

Federal Government Employee Wage Lawsuit

Employees of the federal government have the right to be paid fair wages for the work they perform.  The Fair Labor Standards Act is the federal law that governs the payment of wages to workers.  The Fair Labor Standards Act requires employers, including the federal government, to pay employees at no less than the federal minimum wage rate and also to pay overtime wages when a non-exempt employee works more than 40 hours in a week.  Unfortunately, it has happened too often where employees were not paid for all hours that they work or have been misclassified as being exempt from overtime.

For instance, employees have the right to be paid for all work-related activities.  That means that time spent working prior to the start of a shift or after the end of a shift could be compensable under the Fair Labor Standards Act.  Time spent putting on equipment, going through security screenings, attending meetings, attending training sessions, and other activities that occur off the clock could be compensable.  That means, employees of the federal government could be owed unpaid wages if they are forced to perform work without pay.
